Fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.” Anonymous

I love that quote. It says so much in so few words.

Fear. Now there’s a word that says even more. Means so much to so many. Is defined differently by all.

Some run towards fear, while others move away from it. Some embrace it, some despise it. For some it enhances life. Sadly, for most, it inhibits life.

For most, fear keeps you in a job you hate. A marriage or relationship that is not healthy.

Fear can make you buy a car you cannot afford. A house bigger than you need. Clothes you don’t even like. Friends you don’t even know. Relationships you cannot heal.

Fear of what others may think about you limits the majority in this world. We live by a perception of how others perceive us. Figure that one out. We worry too much about what others think. And worst, we are fearful that someone may find out something about us. As if our deep secret will destroy our perception in the world that others have of us. A fear that we are not worthy of acceptance or love by others.

The reality is, if you told almost anyone your deepest fears or inadequacies they would like respond opposite of what you think. What is insurmountable to you is likely nothing to them.

When it comes to fear I have learned to love it. It’s how I run one hundred or two hundreds mile non-stop. I’m chasing it. I’m seeking it. Am I afraid, of course. I’m human. But I love it. It motivates me beyond words. It pushes me to places I never thought I would go.

Mike Tyson Talking About Fear

Yes, one of the most formidable, and scariest fighters of his time, was afraid. Don’t believe me? Listen for yourself.
